Vacations aka "Gee but its great to be back home"

"Gee but it's great to be back home
Home is where I want to be.
I've been on the road so long my friend,
And if you came along
I know you couldn't disagree."

From a song by Paul Simon.

Its always fun to go on vacation and even better to come back home. Full of memories and new experiences to be recalled anytime in the comfort of your own surroundings.

Visiting New York City is always a fun but exhausting vacation. More to come after I recouperate!

Priceline, etc

Vacations. What an oxymoron.

I have been spending the last couple of weeks stressing over hotel rooms. I have tried negotiating with that darn William Shatner in the neighborhood of 125 times! Every time, he looked right at me and said, "the deal is almost in the bag!" Rrrrriiiight. Finally yesterday I got a deal on Hotwire that was lower than what I was trying for on Priceline! Yay! I dont know if it was good timing or what, but it is a huge weight off of me. Suddenly I felt light and ohhhh-soooo satisfied!

Check out the accomodations:

Yep, yep. I think the end results are very good. Just wish William Shatner could have delivered sooner so I could have been a little less stressed before I go on "vacation". Its going to be FUN!

Parents needing the kids to parent them

This post is in purple to represent what a "royal" pain the ass my dad can be for my sisters. Why them and not me? Because I am the only one that lives out of town thereby escaping his rebellious actions.

What makes a dad behave like a naughtly little boy wanting to get caught and punished and then kicking and fighting and denying? But seriously, what can you do to punish them? Instead his crazy actions punish my sisters. Its like the old addage, "when you give a kid a punishment, it is really the parent is punished" while instituting the said consequence. And they have been getting more than their fair share of being punished lately!

So is this payback?! If so, let this be a warning to all kids, "dont do anything wrong or your parents will make you suffer later in your life!"

Why is it that people live to a point that they are not functioning in an independent, sane and cooperative way? Why do they make up things and try to work one person against the other? Why is it so hard to give in to the fact that they need help and advice? These are questions that cant be answered in our life.

Apparently, it comes down to needing love. Unconditional love. And patience. Boy can he make it hard for them some days!

New Deli and a Movie at the Riverside

Saturday I went out with Brook for lunch and a movie. We decided to try a new place on South Virginia named Fup (ya konw the 2 dots over the u?) Upon our arrival we discovered they're closed on Saturdays sooo, we made a U-turn and tried a new deli on the other side of the street, at least new to us Michael's Deli near the old Fire Station. The food we ordered was great and we both gave it two thumbs up! One adventure gone wrong still gave us a nice alternative. Can't wait to go again.

Our movie was at the Riverside. Anyone that knows about the theatres in Reno would surmise the movie would be an artsy or indie movie. "Vicki Cristina Barcelona" was artsy and Woody Allen. Off the wall, people with strange life philosophies, beautiful scenary and great music sums it up. I liked it. I like movies with these kinds of elements.

I have sure watched a lot of movies lately, many of them in this genre. The only thing that could have made some of them better would have been: watching them with someone! However, I have come to enjoy my own company so that is far better than doing nothing at all. Wouldnt you agree?

No good deed goes unpunished?

Last Wednesday Philip and I were working in the yard fairly late. Being the good guy he is, he trimmed and mowed the neighbors yard too. He usually does since we have small somewhat pie shaped lawns and they look better done at the same time. Dinner was ready and waiting when we finished. Philip turned on the TV and no cable. Checked the computer, no internet service either. I reassured him it was all working earlier and asked if he might have cut the cable line?

He then confessed to having mowed and cut the neighbors line up by their fence but said they have satellite so it wont affect them. I thought it curious that cutting their line would affect ours so we went out to investigate a little further. All of the lines on our property seemed to be fine. So we called for service to get the repair done and they said someone would come the next day.

That night we discovered how dependent we are on being entertained through modern technology. Fortunately, I had rented 3 movies and well ... I watched all 3 in a row! Philip didnt dig the sub-titles on "The Kite Runner" (a most excellent flick!) and headed to bed.

Next day, no cable guy came to our house. They said the appointment was always for Friday. Funny, right when neither of us could be home?! So another night without "entertainment"

Friday the repairman found another place that had been weedwhacked near the cable box on the neighbors side. How ironic. In all the years that cable has been hanging out there, it has never been cut. So is the moral to this story, "no good deed goes unpunished?" Or is it the innocent have to suffer for anothers actions? After all, I had to miss one of my favorite TV shows, "Project Runway!!! And ... I had to resort to other things to do for 48 hours! Terrible, just terrible!!!

I am actually using it as a lesson to remember there is more to life than the luxuries we enjoy ... and that maybe I need to take note of that more often! And also ... I am so thankful it wasnt the power line!!! That would have been a punishment for sure!

3D movies

I can now cross another thing off my "bucket list". I have seen a 3D movie, Journey to the Center of the Earth. I have no idea how it works but it is rather amazing. It caused me to about jump out of my seat on more than one occasion!

And you do need to use the glasses or the movie is blurry! And ... they charge you an extra $2 for that necessity.

And ya know, I dont think that it was ever on my "bucket list" but one things for sure, I had a new experience before I die. Which I sincerely hope is a VERY long time from now!!!
