No good deed goes unpunished?

Last Wednesday Philip and I were working in the yard fairly late. Being the good guy he is, he trimmed and mowed the neighbors yard too. He usually does since we have small somewhat pie shaped lawns and they look better done at the same time. Dinner was ready and waiting when we finished. Philip turned on the TV and no cable. Checked the computer, no internet service either. I reassured him it was all working earlier and asked if he might have cut the cable line?

He then confessed to having mowed and cut the neighbors line up by their fence but said they have satellite so it wont affect them. I thought it curious that cutting their line would affect ours so we went out to investigate a little further. All of the lines on our property seemed to be fine. So we called for service to get the repair done and they said someone would come the next day.

That night we discovered how dependent we are on being entertained through modern technology. Fortunately, I had rented 3 movies and well ... I watched all 3 in a row! Philip didnt dig the sub-titles on "The Kite Runner" (a most excellent flick!) and headed to bed.

Next day, no cable guy came to our house. They said the appointment was always for Friday. Funny, right when neither of us could be home?! So another night without "entertainment"

Friday the repairman found another place that had been weedwhacked near the cable box on the neighbors side. How ironic. In all the years that cable has been hanging out there, it has never been cut. So is the moral to this story, "no good deed goes unpunished?" Or is it the innocent have to suffer for anothers actions? After all, I had to miss one of my favorite TV shows, "Project Runway!!! And ... I had to resort to other things to do for 48 hours! Terrible, just terrible!!!

I am actually using it as a lesson to remember there is more to life than the luxuries we enjoy ... and that maybe I need to take note of that more often! And also ... I am so thankful it wasnt the power line!!! That would have been a punishment for sure!
